Don Lawrence Trophy - Yarra Yarra Golf Club - 30 May 2022

At Yarra Yarra, 36 players entered in the always hotly contested 4BBB Don Lawrence Memorial Trophy. Some morning withdrawals due to Covid and injury saw the field reduced to 32.
The 2021 winners Morag North and Bruce Sutherland teamed up to defend, along with some mixed pairings and many regulars with guests.
With much radar watching ,a forecasted wintery wet day loomed, as players ventured out. Pleasingly despite the steady rain all day, the field pushed on and completed their rounds.
As several soggy and indecipherable cards were returned the results were finally determined with the Royal Melbourne pairing of David Thomas and Tony Rule ( a twice winner with Andrew Thomson) winning with 41 points.
In the member & guest category, Tony Killen and guest Sam Kavourakis returned a fabulous score of 46 points.
For the benefit of new members and guests, Secretary Kim share around some original letters of Don’s.
One of interest was to Muriel Lawrence from Jack Nicklaus giving us an insight into how Jack was dubbed the Golden Bear by Don Lawrence.
After golf, hot snacks and refreshments were enjoyed as President Graeme Ryan and Kim made the presentations.
